When to Trek ?
Travel to Mustang during May-October is highly recommended; still it is possible on April & November. It is depends upon your objective of trek. e.g. If you're interested on ritual & culture festival of Mustang, May is recommended (for 'Tiji'). Please check our Ritual Calendar page for festival details and  e-mail us to get festival date for this year.

How to Organize a Trek ?
In order to travel to upper Mustang, one must arrange an itinerary several weeks in advance and need submit file in Immigration Officer at least 2 weeks in advance with details& copy of passport. The special permit fee charged by HMG for this restricted areas are U.S. $ 700 for 10 days (minimum requirement) and US$ 70 person/per day thereafter. This independent expense, although we take care of all permit arrangements. The trip to Mustang is monitored by His Majesty's Government of Nepal (H.M.G.) and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) under the eagis of King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC) as per government regulations, all travel arrangements must be made through a registered Trekking Agency : groups must also be accompanied by a Nepali Liaison Officer. As Natural resources are scarce in Mustang, Traveling through a registered Trekking agency ensures that tourists will have a minimal impact on the environment as one's food, fuel, and camping equipment are provided.

Which Travel Plan should choose ?
There are two general options for travel routes and duration of one's stay in upper Mustang and also two special thematic trekking itineraries.

Based on Days
Based on Nature
One must stay in the restricted area for at least ten days. Choosing this ten day option is ideal for the busy traveler, as one can walk at a medium paced (an average of five hours per day) and reach the walled city of Monthang on the fourth permit day. This allows for a rest day or two in Monthang before heading back down. However, if a group chooses this route, travel north of Mustang is prohibited, as is travel to Luri Gompa.

If trekkers arrange for a 12-14 day permit, several other travel options are made available. After reaching Monthang, groups can take day Excursion to villages beyond the capital including the monasteries and dwellings found in the caves of Chhoser, Namgyal Gompa, and the royal families summer palace at Thenkhar. Also for those travelers who choose this option, groups can leave Monthang and head east visiting Luri Gompa and rambling through the breathtaking eastern edges of the Kingdom of Lo on their way south.

Regardless of which itinerary one chooses, groups have the option of exiting the restricted area via Kagbeni or via the Muktinath Valley, a cluster of villages and the major pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists that is located east of the restricted area. Please see our Itinerary page for more details.

The "Regal Journey" trek will certainly make you feel like royalty. Mounted on the Raja's horses decked in fine Tibetan saddle blankets, tourists are guided throughout the kingdom of Mustang at a leisurely paced, allowing plenty of time for relaxation and sight seeing. From dining tents complete with plush Tibetan carpets to deliciously prepared exotic Tibetan cuisine, we spare no expense.

For those arm chair anthropologists and cultural connoisseurs, we recommend the "Mustang Pilgrimage" trek. Whether mounted or on foot, the trekkers who choose this option will be privy to a unique glimpse at the wealth of Mustang's religious and cultural heritage. Our specially-trained guides (who speak excellent English) will lead groups through Mustang's monasteries, ruins, and villages, collaging this Kingdom's history and sacred geography onto the present moment. Guru Rinpoche, an eighth century Buddhist saint, is said to have flown up the Kali Gandaki spreading Buddhism from India throughout the Himalayas and Tibet. Relics of his sacred journey punctuate the Mustang landscape. Experience Mustang, quite literally, in the footsteps of this master. You may choose to have a luxury of traveling with a cultural historian (professor of university) who is trained in Tibetan language and heritage and is an expert of the history and cultural heritage of Lo/Mustang.
